Hillingdon Libraries are offering you the chance to learn a new IT skill or update your existing ones free of charge with our online interactive modules from ALISON.
e-Learning is really flexible - when you register with ALISON you select your username & password (you need to have a valid email address as you will be sent a confirmation email, which allows you to activate your account). We have created some instructions to register with the ALISON website online in order to access your free learning.
Once your account is activated you can assign any number of the free e-learning courses to yourself. You can then study in the library, at home or anywhere with Internet access. You can repeat a topic as many times as you need to, or you can jump straight to the topic you want to study. The courses are very interactive so you will learn new skills very quickly. Your training profile will be automatically updated each time you logout.
Every topic has quizzes where you can test the skills you have learnt. Get some new skills wherever, whenever you want.
Our e-learning modules from ALISON cover a wide variety of subjects:
- the ECDL modules include Using a Computer and Managing Files, Information and Communication (Internet & Email), Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations and Databases. You can just study one or two modules to learn new skills or you can gain an internationally recognised ICT qualification (ECDL) by taking the relevant online tests at our Accredited Test Centre - it's up to you!
- the e-Citizen course is a new certification specifically developed for people with a limited knowledge of computers and the Internet. The e-Citizen programme is open to everyone regardless of status, education, age, ability or understanding. It has been created to help you to get the most out of the Internet by explaining how it works and showing that it can be used for a range of purposes. These include dealing with government departments, finding information, buying products and communicating online with family and friends. We can also offer testing in e-Citizen.
- Other e-Learning courses are also available in Office 2000 and Office 2003 (individual courses), plus courses for Financial Literacy, a range of Health & Safety courses, Touch Typing, Business English & Psychometric tests.
We are shortly migrating from our NETgLearning portal to SkillPort, from SkillSoft and will be able to offer a range of more advanced IT courses. Further details available in due course.
Additionally we can offer exam and learning packs for Advanced ECDL:
