The European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) is the internationally recognised qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills.
ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects.
No prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is needed to study ECDL. We are pleased to now be able to offer all e-Learning courses for ECDL free of charge, through ALISON.
In order to gain the ECDL qualification you must pass an exam for each of the seven modules; an ECDL certificate and card will then be issued.
Our main accredited test centre, where you can take the online ECDL & paper-based Advanced ECDL tests is:
- Central Library Learning Centre, Uxbridge
When you are ready for your first test, you must call into Central Library, Uxbridge at least 7 working days before the date of the test to purchase your log book (£28) and your first test (£15). Your log book is like a passport; it has a unique identification number and once registered can be used at any approved ECDL test centre. Each time you pass an exam the relevant page will be stamped, signed by both the invigilator and by you.
The tests we offer are from Enlight TestStation, and the results of your test will appear within seconds of finishing the online test.
You have 45 minutes to answer 36 questions which are either multiple choice (choose one out of four available options) or hotspot (indicate where you would click next - if several methods are possible, you will be able to use any of them, including the right click).
The pass mark is 75%
You can sit up to two exams during one testing session.
If you would like to see what the actual tests will be like, you can try the Enlight Demo Test, which contains ten questions from all seven ECDL Modules.
We would strongly suggest for you to join one of our free support sessions or try out at least one of our electronic diagnostic tests or paper based sample tests (please note that the paper-based sample tests are half the length of a real paper) to ensure that you are ready for the real exam, as retakes also cost £15 . You can also download the ECDL syllabus.
You have a period of 3 years, starting from the date of your first successful test, to pass all seven exams and to gain the ECDL qualification. Please note that from 1st September 2007, standard and special extensions cannot now be applied for. When you have passed all seven exams, the British Computer Society (BCS), the awarding body for this qualification, will issue your certificate (normally within 6 to 8 weeks) which can then be collected from Uxbridge Central Library.
If you leave Hillingdon and/or change address, you can request the Test Centre to hand over your log book so that you can use it at another test centre. You can also undertake tests at our centre, if you started ECDL elsewhere, providing you are within the 3 year period. You will need to provide us with your log book so we can inform the British Computer Society that you have moved and will be completing ECDL with us.
