Seven e-learning modules are available which have been created to cover key computing concepts and their practical applications in every day life, both at work and home.
You can improve your existing skills by picking and choosing whichever module you are most interested in.
These modules follow the European Computer Driving Licence syllabus, so you can complete all seven and pass all seven online tests to gain the ECDL qualification which is internationally recognised. It could be the missing piece in your CV!
Each module normally costs £12.50 and can be purchased from any Hillingdon Library. We have a limited offer where you can purchase any of the 7 ECDL modules for only £5 each. Offer only applies to the ECDL modules. We would still suggest you start with modules 2 & 7, rather than module 1.
Payments can be made by cash or cheque (made payable to the 'London Borough of Hillingdon').
We also hold free regular support sessions.
Still not sure if e-learning is for you? Join one of our free taster sessions.

Module 1: Basic Concepts of Information Technology (IT)
Feel comfortable with the technology available to work a computer by understanding related objects and terms. -
Module 2: Using the Computer and Managing Files
This is the best module to start with as it covers all the basic concepts of using a PC: creating, managing, moving and finding files, as well as working with the Operating System. -
Module 3: Word Processing
Learn the skills you need to create text documents, letters, your CV, reports, mail merges and managing tasks and activities. -
Module 4: Spreadsheets
Develop the skills you need to 'number crunch' electronically, charting raw data, creating graphs and tables for reporting. -
Module 5: Databases
As an integral tool in society, databases are often classed as a 'techie' tool, but the truth is that we all use a database in our everyday life. When we shop, fill in an attendance sheet or even sitting an ECDL test, a database is being used to help. This module covers what a database can do and how to set one up. -
Module 6: Presentations
Create presentations for printing, animated slide shows and the web, but also understand the requirements of a good presentation. -
Module 7: Information and Communication
Effectively search the Internet quickly and easily. Also this module covers the use of email and feeling comfortable with sending and receiving emails and attachments.
All ECDL modules are available in the following versions: Windows 2000 or XP, and Microsoft Office 2000, 2002 (XP) or 2003.
Please note that in order to use these modules at home, your PC needs to use an operating system higher than Windows 98. Also the courses might not work if AOL is your Internet Service Provider as their web browser is not supported.
